World mental health day is Monday 10th October 2022. The theme this year is Making Mental Health & Well-Being for All a Global Priority. So with this in mind what can you do improve mental wellbeing in the workplace?

We often over complicate this, and some may feel that they don’t know where to start whilst. Whilst we appreciate it can feel like a daunting task, it can be as simple as taking the time to talk to employees 1-2-1, have that face-to-face chat with them, keep it light-hearted and informal and listen to them. You can talk about their day, if they have anything planned at the weekend, any upcoming events.

Remember this is not a meeting and should not be set out like one. Get to know your employees!

For employees working from home this can be done via online video calling such as Zoom or Teams.

Encourage your employees to meet up with each other outside of work as this will help them bond and work more effectively, which is better for everybody. Or the Company could arrange a meal or other activity every so often as a thank you for their hard work.

Encourage them to take their breaks, a lot of people end up working through their breaks which negatively impacts the person and increases stress levels.

Ensure your employees are taking their annual leave accordingly, we have recently seen an influx in employees not taking their annual leave due to the impact of COVID-19.
